My experience - experiencing Trader's Hotel by Shangri-La

So a couple of weeks back, I had the pleasure of staying in Traders Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Traders is part of the Shangri-La group, and while it’s a 4 star hotel, it boasts the services of a 5-stars one we are used to by the Shangri-La group. If I had to summarize my stay in one sentence, it would be: An affordable, relaxing, family-friendly stay that takes you out of the city while in the city. with complimentary breakfast!

The room:
First things first! FREE WIFI all day, every day, every where! I know this might seem like a norm to some of you, but believe me when I tell you that I’ve stayed in hotels that charge for wifi, and I am talking like 50 AED for a couple of hours and within room premises, not across the hotel! And you need that wifi cuz you gotta snapchat that staycation of yours!

The 288 rooms in the hotel are large enough to move around comfortably or fit in a cot or two, with some rooms including a small breakfast table, a balcony, and an executive desk.

Other room facilities include: 24-hour in-room dining, Flat-screen LCD TV, In-room safe, Mini bar, Coffee/tea kettle, bathtub and monsoon rain shower, toiletries (Best PARTTT!!), Iron and ironing board, and Hair dryer.

Hotel Facilities:
If you are a person that likes the beach and sun, then this is the place for you! The hotel has a private beach and an outdoor swimming pool, where you can relax and enjoy a drink. While you do that, the kids can play in the fenced playground right next to the beach.

Other hotel facilities include: Hair Salon, Health Club,  and the CHI spa with services for both men and women.

FOOD! If you were going to take a few days off of your diet, then a staycation is the perfect excuse for just that! The hotel has enough restaurants and outlets to keep your tummy satisfied. The first two outlets are the Lobby Lounge and Pool Lounge, where you can get a drink to relax and some light snacks. Then you have Afya restaurant, which is the main attraction. This is where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a seating indoors and outdoors overlooking the beach. You can also either order the buffet or a la carte for a menu selection of several international dishes that suits everyone. They also have a beach bbq brunch every Friday, with a ton of activities and games for the kids. And now onto my favourite restaurant! Afya Beach Lounge, the haven that serves Sheesha. By the beach. Need I say more? I will continue either way.. You can also have some cocktails from a mere 30 AED (unheard of right?!) and the same a la carte menu from Afya restaurant.

However, if all that is unsatisfying to you, you can talk a 5 minute walk to Qaryet Al Beri Souq, but more than that later.

What’s around you:
*Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a 5 minute drive and from some rooms, you can actually see it!
*Yas Mall/Island is 20 minutes away if you want to visit Ferrari world or Yas world or everything else
*Qaryet Al Beri Souq, which is a 5 minute walk, carries several cafes and restaurants with different cuisines that overlooks Sheikh Zayed Mosque (a breath-taking view to say the least!) there are also a couple of night spots in the centre, as well as a nail parlour, pharmacy and a convenience store.

All in all, this was one of my favourite spots because I felt away from the city and in a different place whereas I was only a couple hours away from home. I didn’t feel the need to use the car because everything I needed was either in the hotel or a 5 minute walk in the Qaryet Al Beri Souq.

Staycation: (noun) a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

5 Reasons to Staycation in the UAE:

1. Less Cost (Hello? Have you seen how much air tickets cost these days?!)

2. No Visa Required (Where are all my Arabs at?!)

3. Familiarity (you deal with the same currency and language)

4. Becoming a tourist in your own country (we often forget to visit the landmarks, indulge in the cuisine, discovering hidden gems and getting lost in a beautiful city!)

5. Shattaf :| (You'll know what I'm talking about if you've been to Europe or the US..)
